MIR654 is a microRNA gene that gives rise to miRNAs involved in various biological processes, including carcinogenesis, with miR-654-3p and miR-654-5p being its mature products [PMC9224266]. The lncRNA EMX2OS has been shown to interact with MIR654, suppressing its expression and consequently leading to increased PD-L1 levels and enhanced proliferation, invasion, and spheroid formation in ovarian cancer cells [PMC8974003]. MIR654 was examined but not found to be among the aberrantly expressed miRNAs in head and neck cancers [PMC5354851]. Additionally, MIR654 has been implicated in the immune response to viral infections; studies have demonstrated that MIR654 can inhibit the replication of influenza viruses by targeting specific viral components [PMC3774802], [PMC5360757].
