MIR1973 is a microRNA implicated in various respiratory conditions, including emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) [PMC9313339]. It is associated with the translocation associated membrane protein 1-like 1 (TRAM1L1) gene and is partially transcribed from the MT-RNR2 gene [PMC4852408]. The expression of MIR1973 in alveolar type II (ATII) cells from emphysema patients mirrors that of 16S rRNA, suggesting a connection with long non-coding RNAs and MT-RNR2 transcripts [PMC9313339]. In plasma samples from COPD patients, MIR1973 levels were elevated in the early stages of the disease (GOLD1) compared to smokers, while its expression was reduced in ATII cells from emphysema patients relative to smokers and even lower in nonsmokers [PMC9313339]. However, MIR1973 was not detected in a certain dataset analysis [PMC7425458]. Epigenetic studies identified CpG sites near the MIR1973 gene that may influence its expression [PMC7425458]. In lung adenocarcinoma cells, increased expression of MIR1973 has been linked to resistance and reduced apoptosis intensity, indicating its potential role in cancer cell survival [PMC7425458].
